This site aims to bring Fanny Burney texts under one roof and to make them freely available to visitors. We have also tried to make it as straightforward as possible for visitors to find their way around the site and to gain access to those parts of the texts that they require. The Internet does not go back to the Eighteenth Century. Nevertheless, it has a proud history of co-operation and generosity that this site both benefits from and hopes to return! The editor's only qualification for compiling these pages is that he completed an MA thesis on Fanny Burney in 1986 entitled 'Classicism and Feeling in Fanny Burney's Novels'. He also loves The Internet. He hopes that site visitors will also share an enthusiasm and deep sense of admiration for Fanny Burney's natural and prolific writing ability. It is interesting that early on Fanny Burney was considered the stupid one in her family. She was short-sighted and shy - excellent qualifications for a dedicated and fluent writer! |
Please feel free to drop in on this site whenever you can spare the time or whenever the pace of Twenty-First Century emails and texting gets the better of you and you feel the need to peruse some more carefully constructed and measured letters and sentences!
